The remand order for a 19-year-old college student has been extended for another seven days to assist police investigations into the death of a newborn baby girl found inside a toilet bowl at a house in Taman Setia Mutiara last week.
The extension order was issued by Magistrate Nurasidah A Rahman at the Kluang Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The additional remand period was granted to allow police to complete investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 315 of the Penal Code for causing or attempting to cause the death of a newborn baby.
Previously, Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the teenager was arrested after he was believed to be linked to the discovery of the baby’s body on July 29.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old female student believed to have given birth to the baby is still receiving treatment at Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom, Kluang.
Police are continuing investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
