Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd has launched an investigation into the fatal electrocution that claimed the lives of three Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers in Kampung Weston, Beaufort, on Thursday evening.
In a statement, the utility company confirmed the incident and said its technical team was immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the tragedy to ensure the area was safe.
Sabah Electricity said its personnel are working closely with the police and other relevant agencies to assist with the ongoing investigation.
“The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation,” the company said, urging the public not to speculate while inquiries are ongoing.
The company also extended its condolences to the families of the victims and the Royal Malaysia Police, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
Sabah Electricity pledged its full cooperation with the authorities and said appropriate action would be taken once the investigation is completed.
Earlier reports indicated that the three officers were believed to have been electrocuted after a metal pole used to harvest coconuts came into contact with an overhead power line.
The victims, all attached to the Weston Police Station, were identified as Chiu Teck Siong, 40, Mohamad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, 29, and Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, 26.
Meanwhile, Sabah Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Datuk Ruslan Muharam, together with Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, visited Beaufort Hospital to pay their final respects to the three officers.
Ruslan described their deaths as a great loss, saying their dedication and service to the community would always be remembered. He also expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and the entire police force.
