SAR Operation Ends After All Four Boat Tragedy Victims Found

The final victim of the boat sinking tragedy in Sungai Baram near Long Selatong, Marudi was found drowned early this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the body of Ceria Dullah, 43, was discovered by members of the public at Long Miri at about 5am.

Following the discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) team travelled to Long Miri at 7.50am and arrived at the location where the victim was found at 11.29am.

“Using a public boat, the SAR team retrieved the woman’s body, which was found about 94 kilometres from the location of the incident,” JBPM Sarawak said in a statement today.

The SAR operation was officially concluded after all four victims involved in the tragedy were located.

The incident occurred last Monday when four residents from Kampung Long Selatong were believed to have boarded a boat heading towards Long San Health Clinic before the vessel capsized in Sungai Baram.

The body of four-year-old boy Jovian Jangin Joshua was found on Tuesday, followed by his father Joshua Uken Mathew, 38, the following day.

The third victim, Jonathan Nyurang Lusut, 45, was found on Thursday before the final victim was located today.
