Senior Citizen Claims Sibu Hospital Doctor Told Him, “Why Don’t You Just Die?”

Date:

A senior citizen has alleged that he was “roughly handled” by a doctor during treatment at Sibu Hospital on December 3 — and further claimed the doctor made an offensive remark while attending to him.

The man, who is in his 60s and requested anonymity, told The Borneo Post he was shocked when the doctor allegedly said to him: “Uncle, why don’t you just die, then no need to suffer so much.”

“This is something no doctor should ever say to a patient,” he said.

He claimed the incident unfolded when he was asked to enter the emergency department examination room. According to him, the “rough handling” happened as he tried to climb onto the examination bed.

“Instead of letting me step onto the small wooden steps, he lifted me onto his back even though I told him not to — my chemo port was pressed against him — and then he just threw me onto the bed,” he alleged.

He said he warned the doctor that he had sensitive areas and wounds still healing following surgery to correct his stoma, and reminded him that he is undergoing treatment for rectal cancer.

“He is a doctor, so he must be careful about these things,” he added.

The patient said he was also experiencing heavy bleeding that night, with his haemoglobin level reportedly dropping from 11.7 to 10.2, and then to 9.4.

When contacted, Sibu Hospital declined to comment on the allegations.
