Air quality in Serian, Sarawak has deteriorated to the “very unhealthy” level, with the Air Pollutant Index (API) reaching 218 as of 8am today.
Data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed nine areas in Sarawak and one in Melaka recording “unhealthy” API readings.
Kuching recorded the highest unhealthy reading at 195, followed by Samarahan at 188, Bintulu (170), Sri Aman (168) and Samalaju (163).
Sibu and Sarikei both recorded readings of 158, while Mukah registered 151. Bukit Rambai in Melaka recorded 118, while Miri stood at 114.
Meanwhile, 50 areas nationwide recorded API readings within the “moderate” category, while seven areas recorded “good” air quality.
Under the API classification, readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, while 51 to 100 are considered moderate.
Readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
