Serian recorded Malaysia’s highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 195 as of 8am today, with 15 areas nationwide recording unhealthy air quality amid the ongoing transboundary haze.
Data from the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed Sarawak accounting for 11 of the 15 locations with unhealthy readings.
Kuching recorded the second-highest API reading at 180, followed by Samarahan at 179 and Sri Aman at 171.
Other affected areas in Sarawak were Sarikei at 164, Samalaju at 161, Sibu at 157, Mukah at 155, Bintulu at 152, Miri at 147 and ILP Miri at 117.
In Sabah, Kota Kinabalu recorded an unhealthy API reading of 150, while Labuan stood at 133.
On the peninsula, Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur recorded an API reading of 127, while Pasir Gudang in Johor registered 116.
Meanwhile, 48 monitoring stations nationwide recorded moderate API readings.
According to the API classification, readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality, while 51 to 100 are considered moderate.
Readings from 101 to 200 indicate unhealthy air quality, while 201 to 300 are classified as very unhealthy. Any reading above 300 is considered hazardous.
