Seven Arrested in Langkawi Over Fake RM100 Note Scam

Date:

Seven people, including five men and two women aged between 24 and 36, have been arrested in Langkawi over a counterfeit money scheme involving fake RM100 notes.

Langkawi district police chief ACP Shariman Ashari said the arrests were made in two separate operations following four reports of counterfeit notes being circulated in Chenang, Padang Matsirat, and Kuah.

“Based on public information, we managed to track down and detain the suspects starting from 8.30pm yesterday,” he said in a statement.

All seven suspects tested positive for drugs during urine screenings, and several of them have prior criminal records linked to drugs and other offences.

Police have obtained a three-day remand order until Tuesday to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 489B of the Penal Code for currency counterfeiting.
