Six areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 7am today.
Based on the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System website, Serian recorded the highest reading at 183, followed by Kuching (178), Sri Aman (172), Samarahan (162), Sarikei (152) and Sibu (114).
Meanwhile, 52 areas across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak recorded moderate API readings, while 10 locations in Peninsular Malaysia recorded good air quality.
The API is classified into several levels based on the severity of air pollution. Readings of 0 to 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, 301 to 400 hazardous, 401 to 500 extremely hazardous, while readings above 501 are classified as an emergency.
