‘Snow’ On Kesas Turns Out To Be Soap Foam Washed Up By Heavy Rain

Date:

A stretch of the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) that appeared to be covered in snow on Thursday afternoon was actually blanketed by soap foam after heavy rain washed up residue from a spill more than a week earlier.

The unusual scene, which stretched for about 500 metres between Kilometre 30 and 30.5 on the Klang-bound-to-Kuala Lumpur side of the highway, was spotted at around 3.10pm.

Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said preliminary investigations found that the soap residue was believed to have originated from a lorry carrying the substance that spilled on August 24 near the Kota Kemuning slip road before the vehicle entered Kesas towards Klang.

“When the spill occurred, firefighters took action by spreading sawdust along the affected stretch to clean up the soap residue,” he said in a statement last night.

However, Sarudin said heavy rain yesterday caused some of the remaining residue to foam, resulting in the 500-metre stretch being covered in white foam.

The highway concessionaire later carried out another round of cleaning, which was completed at 4.58pm yesterday.

The bizarre sight quickly drew attention on social media, with motorists sharing videos showing the road appearing to be covered in snow.

The footage showed a white liquid coating the road surface, with tyre tracks visible from vehicles that had passed through the affected stretch.

The incident also raised concerns among road users, particularly motorcyclists, amid reports that the road surface had become slippery.
