Stroke Patient Dies After Ambulance Smashes Into Van on Curved Road With 11 Other Injured

A stroke patient died after the ambulance he was travelling in collided with a van near Jalan Kampung Paris 1 here today.

Kinabatangan District Police Chief Superintendent D. Ravi said the 9.40am accident also injured 11 others, including the ambulance driver, a co-driver, a doctor and a nurse inside the ambulance, as well as eight people travelling in the van.

He said all the injured are currently receiving treatment in the green zone of Kinabatangan Hospital.

“The incident occurred while the ambulance was on its way from Lahad Datu Hospital to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. As it was passing through a bend, a van entered the opposite lane and collided with the ambulance,” he told Bernama.

He added that the patient died at the scene and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
