A secondary school student in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, who was filmed behaving as though he was intoxicated in class has tested positive for ketamine, benzodiazepines (Benzo) and THC.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said an initial urine screening detected the three substances, although the results are still subject to further confirmation.
He said police had also lodged a report over the incident after a video showing the student in an allegedly intoxicated state went viral on Threads on Wednesday (Nov 4).
Police subsequently launched an investigation and identified the student involved.
“Initial investigations found that the incident is believed to have taken place on Oct 28 at a secondary school in Nilai,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
The student will be referred to the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for further action under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
Alzafny said police viewed drug and substance abuse, particularly among students, as a serious matter.
He also urged the public against making speculation that could affect the investigation and called for co-operation in efforts to tackle drug abuse.
The viral footage showed the student standing in a classroom with his body bent forward and head lowered near a desk.
His seemingly unstable condition caught the attention of several other students in the classroom.
The video was accompanied by a caption criticising the behaviour of SPM students, with the phrase “teruk budak SPM sekarang, dalam kelas pun nak piu-piu”, which appeared to refer to the student’s condition.
Police had earlier investigated the incident following the video’s circulation on social media.
