Suspect Nabbed After Late-Night Collision And Alleged Assault In Petaling Jaya

Date:

A man allegedly rammed into a car before assaulting the driver in a viral incident at Jalan PJU 8/1, Damansara Perdana, early Saturday morning.

The incident involving a Honda HR-V and a Perodua Bezza was reported to have occurred at about 12.27am.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said police received a report on the incident at 10.31am the same day.

He said the suspect, a local man in his 20s, was believed to have failed to stop at a traffic light and crashed into the Perodua Bezza.

“The collision caused a local woman in her 20s, who was a passenger in the car, to suffer injuries,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Shamsudin said investigations found that the incident had gone viral on social media.

“The suspect has been arrested at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters compound for reckless driving.

“Preliminary alcohol and urine screening tests came back negative,” he added.

He said a remand application for the suspect would be made at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

A separate investigation is also being carried out under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.

Police said they take road offences seriously and will not compromise with those who break the law.

Members of the public who witnessed the incident are urged to come forward or contact the investigating officer to assist in the investigation.
