Taipei Killer Who Murdered Sister Over Shower Time Attacks Police After Prison Release

Date:

A shocking incident unfolded in Taipei when a 32-year-old man, identified only by his surname Gao, brandished a knife in a supermarket, causing public panic. Police were called to the scene in Neihu District’s Donghu neighborhood on Saturday evening. Gao fled to a nearby shopping center, and when officers attempted to persuade him to surrender the weapon, he attacked a police officer, injuring both hands. Backup officers quickly intervened and restrained him.

The injured officer was conscious and received emergency treatment, with no life-threatening injuries. Gao was also sent for medical evaluation and will face charges including attempted murder, assault, and obstruction of duty, with prosecutors expected to request preventive detention.

Shockingly, Gao has a dark criminal history. On February 11, 2001, he killed his own sister at their home in Neihu after an argument over her taking too long in the shower, which blocked the bathroom for over half an hour. After striking her head and slitting her throat with a kitchen knife, he fled by train and bus.

His parents discovered their daughter dead upon returning home and immediately reported the crime, while Gao remained at large. About a month later, after running out of money, he turned himself in and admitted to the killing, claiming he acted in a moment of anger.

Even during his prison term, Gao displayed violent tendencies. He reportedly assaulted a fellow inmate over a dispute about using the bathroom. After completing his sentence, he has now resurfaced with this violent incident, raising serious concerns about his rehabilitation.
