A teenage boy has been remanded for seven days after being arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Tampin late last month.
Tampin district police chief Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman said police received a report at 1.51am on May 28 alleging that the underage victim had been sexually assaulted by a male acquaintance she had known for only three days.
According to investigations, the suspect and the victim had recently become acquainted after exchanging phone numbers during an earlier meeting.
Police believe the suspect later picked up the girl on a Modenas Kriss motorcycle before allegedly taking her to a secluded area of bushes where the incident is said to have occurred.
Acting on information gathered during the investigation, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tampin District Police Headquarters successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect at a house in Kuala Pilah on Wednesday.
“The suspect had only known the victim for three days after they exchanged phone numbers upon meeting each other,” Amiruddien said in a statement.
He added that investigators subsequently obtained a seven-day remand order to facilitate further inquiries into the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
Police have not disclosed further details as investigations remain ongoing.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow investigators to complete their probe.
