Three men were killed while another was injured after the car they were travelling in plunged into a ravine along a road in the Bagahak-Lahad Datu forest reserve on Monday night.
The crash occurred at around 7.30pm, with all three men, whose identities have yet to be confirmed, pronounced dead at the scene.
Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station chief Sumsoa Rashid said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 7.38pm.
Four firefighters were dispatched to the location, which was about 50 kilometres from the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station.
“Upon arrival, the team found a Proton Aeroback had apparently lost control while negotiating a bend before plunging into a ravine estimated to be five metres deep.
“Three adult men were found inside the vehicle and were pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
The bodies of all three victims were subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
A fourth adult male was also found injured in the crash and was taken to hospital by ambulance for further medical treatment.
Firefighters ended the operation at around 8.45pm after ensuring the area was safe and that there were no further hazards at the scene.
