Thunderstorm Warning Issued Across Several Malaysian States

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for multiple states today, Thursday, 28 August 2025. Residents are advised to exercise caution as heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected in several regions.

The affected areas include Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi), Terengganu (Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang), Johor (Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru), Sarawak (Sarikei – Pakan, Julau, Meradong; Limbang), Sabah (Interior – Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort; West Coast – Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu), and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

The warning is valid until 4:00 PM today. Authorities explained that thunderstorm alerts are issued when rainfall is expected to exceed 20 mm per hour or last for more than an hour. These warnings are considered short-term and remain effective for up to six hours per issuance.

The Meteorological Department urges the public to stay alert, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and take precautionary measures to ensure safety during the storms.
