The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across several areas in 11 states today.
MetMalaysia said the first warning covers Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Pahang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan until 7pm.
In Kedah, the affected areas are Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu.
In Penang, the warning covers Seberang Perai Selatan, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Utara, while in Pahang, it involves Bentong and Jerantut.
In Selangor, the affected areas are Gombak, Hulu Selangor and Hulu Langat, while Jelebu is the only district affected in Negeri Sembilan.
A second warning has been issued for Perak, Kelantan and Terengganu until 9pm.
In Perak, the areas affected are Selama, Larut Matang, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Kinta.
The warning covers the whole of Kelantan, while in Terengganu, it involves Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus.
MetMalaysia said such warnings are issued when signs indicate that thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, with each warning valid for no more than six hours from the time it is issued.
