The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to persist until 2pm on Wednesday.
Areas affected in Kedah include Langkawi, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik and Baling. In Perak, the warning covers Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim.
The alert also extends to Bentong in Pahang, as well as the entire states of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. Residents in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are also advised to remain alert.
In Johor, the affected districts are Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.
According to the weather advisory, the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to persist for more than one hour.
Authorities noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories and are valid for a period not exceeding six hours from the time of issuance.
Members of the public are advised to exercise caution, particularly those travelling or carrying out outdoor activities, as heavy rain and strong winds may lead to flash floods, fallen trees and reduced visibility on roads.
