The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in 10 states until 6pm today.
In a statement, MetMalaysia said the warning covers the whole of Kelantan, Terengganu and Selangor, as well as Kuala Lumpur.
In Perak, the affected areas are Selama, Larut Matang, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, Muallim, Hilir Perak and Bagan Datuk.
The warning also covers several areas in Pahang, including Jerantut, Lipis, Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera and Kuantan.
In Negeri Sembilan, the affected districts are Jelebu, Jempol, Kuala Pilah, Tampin, Seremban and Rembau.
For Johor, the warning applies to Segamat, Muar, Kluang, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi.
In Sarawak, affected areas include Sri Aman, Limbang, Miri, Marudi, Bintulu, Sebauh, Kuching, Bau, Serian and Samarahan.
In Sabah, the warning covers the interior districts of Sipitang, Tenom, Sook and Beaufort, as well as west coast areas including Ranau, Kota Belud, Tuaran and Kota Kinabalu.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are occurring or expected to continue for more than an hour.
The department added that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert, valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
