A grandfather, grandmother and their granddaughter were injured after a large tree fell onto their car along Jalan Macalister in George Town on Sunday morning.
The incident happened at about 9am in front of 218 Macalister Hotel, with the vehicle becoming trapped and crushed beneath the fallen tree.
Following the incident, personnel from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force rushed to the location to remove the tree debris and assist in getting the victims out of the vehicle.
The three victims were injured in the incident, although the severity of their injuries had yet to be officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
The fallen tree also disrupted traffic along the busy road, with all four lanes of Macalister Road closed to motorists as authorities carried out rescue and clearing operations.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the affected stretch and use alternative routes while emergency personnel work to clear the area and ensure it is safe for traffic.
