Two men were killed and another injured in a collision involving two lorries along Jalan Simpang Pulai towards Cameron Highlands on Tuesday.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call about the accident at 8.36pm.
He said seven firefighters from the Simpang Pulai Fire and Rescue Station were immediately dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
“The crash involved a lorry carrying sawdust, with a 42-year-old man trapped inside, and another lorry carrying vegetables with two men, aged 40 and 35.
“The two men travelling in the vegetable lorry were pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer,” he said here today.
Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the trapped victim before handing him over to an ambulance crew for treatment at a hospital.
The bodies of the two victims were handed over to police for further action.
Firefighters also cleaned up debris and oil spilled onto the road using a hose reel and sawdust.
The operation was brought under control at 11pm and fully concluded at 1.15am after the area was declared safe.
