Two Killed, Four Injured After Two Boats Collide At Mersing Customs Jetty

Two people were killed while four others were injured after two boats collided at the Mersing Customs Jetty at around 9.04pm on Monday.

Operation Commander Senior Fire Officer I Mohamed Zainuddin Ahmad said initial information indicated that six people were involved in the incident.

Following the report, nine firefighters were dispatched to the scene along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and Fire Rescue Vehicle (FRV).

“When the Fire and Rescue Department operation team arrived, they found that two boats had collided.

“Two victims were confirmed dead, while four others sustained injuries,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The deceased were handed over to the police for further action, while the four injured victims were taken to Mersing Hospital for medical treatment.

The rescue operation was still ongoing, with further developments to be announced as the situation progressed.

Meanwhile, Mersing district police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident when contacted, saying investigations were underway.

He said police would issue further statements or updates on the case when appropriate.
