Two teenage girls were killed after being thrown out of a Perodua Myvi following a collision with a lorry at the Batang Sadong Bridge in Simunjan, Sarawak, early this morning.
The tragic incident occurred at about 6.30am, with both victims, identified as 19-year-old Nurfazilah Ramli and another teenage girl, confirmed dead at the scene.
A third victim, the Myvi driver identified as 30-year-old Harudin Ramli, sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre, five firefighters from the Simunjan Fire and Rescue Station were deployed immediately after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the accident involved a Perodua Myvi and a lorry believed to have suffered mechanical issues prior to the crash.
Authorities said the impact of the collision caused both female passengers to be thrown from the vehicle, where they were later confirmed dead by Health Ministry personnel.
The 22-year-old lorry driver escaped unhurt in the incident.
Firefighters later assisted in removing the victims’ bodies and handed them over to police for further investigation.
They also carried out cleanup work at the scene, including clearing oil spills and debris to ensure the road was safe for other motorists.
