Two Workers Seriously Injured After Lift Falls From 7th Floor During Maintenance

Date:

Two foreign workers were left seriously injured after a lift under maintenance reportedly plunged from the seventh floor of a hotel in an incident that occurred earlier today, sparking an urgent rescue operation at the scene.

Incidents involving lift maintenance continue to highlight the risks faced by workers in high-rise environments, where strict safety procedures are essential to prevent catastrophic accidents. Authorities often stress the importance of compliance with occupational safety standards during such operations.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) in Melaka, both victims, who are Indian nationals aged 27, were trapped inside the lift structure following the fall from the upper level of the building.

JBPM director Mohd Zaidi Ma’at said firefighters were deployed immediately after the alert was received and managed to locate and extricate the trapped workers after an operation lasting roughly one hour.

Both men were subsequently handed over to Health Ministry (KKM) personnel at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment. Their condition has been described as serious, while doctors continue to monitor their injuries closely.

Preliminary information suggests the workers were positioned on or near the lift system while maintenance work was being carried out at the seventh floor level when the incident occurred.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess whether proper safety protocols were followed during the maintenance work, with further details expected once checks are completed.
