A 21-year-old university student was found dead on the ground below her hostel block in Penang on Thursday morning, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
The woman was discovered lying on a concrete surface by a cleaner at about 7.25am.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said police received a call from the university at 8.40am regarding a suspected fall from a building at the hostel.
“Initial investigations at the scene found no indications of criminal elements,” he said in a statement.
An examination of the body revealed several external injuries believed to have been sustained in a fall from a height, he added.
The body was subsequently sent to the Penang Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
Rozak said the case had been classified as a sudden death report, with investigations ongoing.
