A man in his 30s has been arrested over a suspected robbery involving injuries at a house in Taman Batu Gajah Perdana, Batu Gajah, after footage of the incident went viral on social media.
Batu Gajah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Noor Aehawan Mohammad said the suspect was arrested at about 9.50pm on Saturday near Jalan Kledang following intelligence gathering carried out after the incident.
He said the incident occurred at about 11.47am when the victim, also in his 30s, returned home with his family and discovered the suspect inside the house.
The complainant attempted to restrain the intruder, resulting in a struggle. The suspect then allegedly took a pair of pliers from his sling bag and swung it at the complainant, but struck the man’s wife on her left hand, causing injuries.
Following the incident, the suspect allegedly tried to flee on a motorcycle belonging to him that had been parked at the victim’s house. However, he fell before abandoning the motorcycle and sling bag containing several items believed to have been used in housebreaking activities.
A 54-second video of the incident subsequently went viral on social media on Saturday, showing the struggle and the suspect allegedly attempting to escape from the house.
Police checks at the residence found that no valuables had been reported missing. However, the front door handle was damaged, believed to have been forced open, while the master bedroom and wardrobe had been ransacked and left in disarray.
The victim and his wife were taken to hospital for treatment and further medical examination.
Police are investigating the case under Section 394 of the Penal Code.
