A waste oil storage tank caught fire at an industrial premises in Kidurong on Tuesday afternoon, prompting an emergency response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).
According to the Sarawak JBPM Operations Centre, firefighters from the Kidurong Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving an emergency call at approximately 12.52pm.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the blaze was confined to a waste oil storage tank and had not spread to the main structure of the factory, preventing what could have been a far more serious industrial fire.
Equipped with full personal protective equipment, the firefighting team launched extinguishing operations using a 200-foot hose line, with water supplied from a nearby fire hydrant.
The operation was further reinforced by personnel from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station, who assisted in bringing the fire under control. Firefighting efforts were still ongoing at the time of reporting.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, while the extent of the damage and estimated financial losses remain under investigation.
