A 22-year-old woman has been arrested after police seized various types of drugs worth an estimated RM18,448.25 during two separate raids in Sibu on Tuesday.
Sibu police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) carried out the first raid at about 3pm along Jalan Pahlawan.
During the operation, police recovered 11 grams of suspected ketamine crystals, 190.15 grams of drink powder believed to contain ecstasy, and 500 millilitres of liquid suspected to contain the same drug, with the total seizure valued at RM2,912.
Further investigations led officers to a second raid at a house in Jalan Belatok at about 3.45pm the same day.
Police seized an additional 514.6 grams of drink powder suspected to contain ecstasy, 191 grams of ketamine, and 1,000 millilitres of liquid believed to contain ecstasy, with an estimated value of RM15,536.25.
The combined value of drugs seized in both raids was estimated at RM18,448.25.
Abang Zainal said preliminary urine tests showed the suspect tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and benzodiazepine. She was also found to have previous drug-related offences on record.
The woman has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for suspected drug trafficking. She is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption.
If convicted under Section 39B, the suspect faces the death penalty or life imprisonment. A conviction under Section 15(1)(a) carries a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, in addition to two years of supervision under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Abang Zainal said the Royal Malaysia Police, particularly the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, will continue intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
