A woman has apologised after a photo showing an upside-down Jalur Gemilang displayed on the back of a pickup truck went viral and drew criticism on social media.
The image, which showed the vehicle travelling along a highway with the Malaysian flag appearing upside down, prompted some netizens to question whether it had been displayed incorrectly on purpose.
According to Kwong Wah Yit Poh, the woman later addressed the incident in a Facebook post, insisting that it was an honest mistake and not an act of disrespect.
She explained that the Jalur Gemilang was a magnetic sticker, which she believes had fallen off while the vehicle was being washed.
According to her, a car wash worker likely reattached the sticker without realising it had been placed upside down.
The woman said the mistake was corrected immediately after they noticed it.
She also apologised to Malaysians, stressing that there was never any intention to insult or disrespect the national flag.
The incident has since served as a reminder for motorists to double-check that flag stickers and decorations are displayed correctly, especially during the Merdeka celebration period.
