Woman Caught Smuggling 19kg Of Silver Under Fake Pregnancy Belly At Customs

Date:

Authorities have intercepted a smuggling attempt involving more than 19 kilograms of silver hidden by a traveller posing as a pregnant woman, according to China’s General Administration of Customs.

The incident took place on March 13 at the Hengqin Customs Office under Zhuhai Gongbei Customs, where officers were inspecting incoming vehicles.

A female driver drew attention after behaving nervously and showing unusual body posture, prompting a closer inspection.

Officials later discovered that the woman had allegedly disguised herself as a pregnant passenger and concealed 16 packages of silver particles strapped around her abdomen. The total weight of the seized silver was reported to be 19.206 kilograms.

Customs authorities said the case highlights ongoing attempts to evade border controls amid high precious metal prices. They reminded travellers that hiding taxable goods to bypass customs regulations constitutes smuggling and is subject to legal penalties.
