A 54-year-old woman died while two others were injured following a collision involving a lorry and two cars near the West Coast Expressway (WCE) toll plaza in the Teluk Intan area early Saturday.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the woman was travelling in a Toyota Vellfire when the crash occurred. She was trapped in the front passenger seat and was later pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical personnel.
The 59-year-old female driver of the Vellfire suffered serious injuries but was not trapped and was assisted out of the vehicle by members of the public.
Sabarodzi said a 50-year-old man travelling in a Honda HR-V sustained minor injuries, while the 31-year-old lorry driver was unharmed in the incident.
“The department received a distress call regarding the accident at 6.32am,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Firefighters from the Teluk Intan and Hutan Melintang fire and rescue stations were mobilised to the location and arrived at about 6.50am, around 12km from their respective station.
Upon arrival, rescuers found a 25-tonne empty lorry and the two cars, a Toyota Vellfire and Honda HR-V, involved in the crash. Firefighters then used specialised rescue equipment, including a power-unit rescue cutter, to remove the trapped victim from the Vellfire.
The woman’s remains were subsequently handed over to police for further action, while the injured victims received initial medical treatment before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
The operation was declared under control at 8.20am and fully concluded at 9.20am. A total of 11 firefighters and two fire and rescue vehicles were involved in the rescue operation.
