The fire, which was reported at about 5.30pm, led many online users to mistakenly believe that the popular restaurant and lodge had been engulfed in flames.
However, preliminary information indicates that only a wooden storage unit located on a nearby property was affected. The main buildings housing Putri Nabalu Restaurant and Nabalu Lodge were not involved in the blaze.
The fire attracted the attention of motorists and visitors, many of whom stopped to record the incident as thick plumes of smoke billowed into the evening sky.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, while the full extent of the damage and the estimated financial losses remain under investigation.
