University Student Intern Dies After Allegedly Being Sucked Into Water Tank System During Maintenance Work

A 24-year-old man has died after drowning while carrying out maintenance work at a water tank at Kolam Menara Saujana Perdana, Jalan Saujana Perdana 18, Bandar Saujana Perdana, yesterday.

In the incident at about 11.51am, the victim was reportedly working on top of the water tank when he is believed to have been sucked into the structure and was unable to escape.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 11.51am regarding the incident.

He said a team from the Bestari Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene at about 12.17pm.

The operation commander reported that the victim was found unconscious on top of the water tank while conducting maintenance work.

Preliminary information indicated that the man was believed to have been drawn into the water tank before drowning inside.

Firefighters later carried out a rescue operation to retrieve the victim from the tank.

However, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel before his body was handed over to the police for further action.
