Young Married Couple Killed In Three-Vehicle Crash During Heavy Rain

Date:

A young married couple lost their lives in a tragic three-vehicle collision along Kilometre 19 of Jalan Endau-Mersing on Sunday evening.

Mersing district police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said authorities received a report about the crash involving a Perodua Myvi, a Toyota Innova and a Chery Omoda at approximately 5.10pm.

The victims were identified as 24-year-old Muhammad Firdaus Muhamad Bustaman and his 23-year-old wife, Siti Nur Aisyah Anoor Beet Babjan Kahar, both from Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang.

According to police, the couple suffered severe injuries to multiple parts of their bodies and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest the Perodua Myvi carrying the couple was travelling towards Mersing when the driver lost control of the vehicle amid heavy rain. The car allegedly veered into the opposite lane before colliding with a Toyota Innova and a Chery Omoda.

“The weather was reported to be extremely heavy rain at the time of the incident,” Abdul Razak said in a statement.

The driver of the Toyota Innova suffered a fractured right toe, while his wife sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 75-year-old driver of the Chery Omoda escaped the crash without any injuries.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In a separate statement, Operation Commander Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Sheral Anuar Mawarday said firefighters had to use special rescue equipment to extricate the trapped victims from the wrecked Perodua Myvi.

“The victims were confirmed dead by Ministry of Health personnel before being handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

The heartbreaking accident serves as another reminder of the dangers motorists face when driving in adverse weather conditions, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and reduced visibility.
