23 Malaysians Fined for Trying to Cross Johor Border Without Passports

Date:

Twenty-three Malaysians were fined and three others received warnings for attempting to leave the country via Johor without presenting their passports.

The incidents occurred on October 16 at the outbound motorcycle lane of the Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building.

According to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA), all 26 individuals violated Section 2(2) of the Passport Act, which requires travellers to present their passports to immigration officers on duty.

Ten offenders were convicted and fined RM1,000 each on November 6, while another 13 were fined RM1,500 each yesterday by the Pekan Nenas Special Immigration Court. The remaining three, who were pillion riders, were issued warnings.

The MCBA reminded all travellers to comply with immigration rules, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action and possible employment issues, as passports may be held by immigration authorities during investigations.
