Six children and teenagers were among 31 individuals arrested last month in a nationwide operation targeting the distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, said the coordinated special operation, Op Pedo Bersepadu 2.0, was carried out simultaneously at 37 locations across Malaysia on September 23 by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The operation was based on digital intelligence gathered by the Sexual, Women and Children Investigation Division (D11) of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), led by Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) Siti Kamsiah Hassan, Deputy Director of D11 JSJ Bukit Aman.
“A total of 31 arrests were made, including 25 primary targets and six follow-up arrests, involving 30 Malaysians and one foreign national,” he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman today.
The arrested individuals ranged in age from 12 to 71 and came from various backgrounds, including students, teachers, engineers, graphic designers, and unemployed persons.
