500 Bersatu Members In Perak Quit Party

Date:

A wave of resignations has struck Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Perak after about 500 members from several divisions in the state announced their departure from the party on Friday.

Former Bersatu Supreme Council member Zainol Fadzi Paharudin said the mass exit involved members from multiple divisions, with the majority coming from the Lumut division.

He explained that most of those leaving were core members who had previously played active roles in mobilising the party at the grassroots level.

“Earlier, we identified around 300 members from the Lumut division who agreed to leave Bersatu, with the signature collection process beginning in early March,” he said.

“Although Lumut has more than 2,000 registered members, in politics usually only around 10 to 30 per cent are truly active. Those who came forward today are among the key individuals who had previously driven the party’s activities at the divisional level,” he added.

Zainol Fadzi made the remarks to reporters during the Reset Perak Programme held at the Phase 2C Community Hall in Seri Manjung.

The Sungai Manik state assemblyman stressed that the decision to leave the party was made voluntarily by the members involved and was not the result of coercion or influence from others.

At the same time, he revealed that the Reset Perak Secretariat has already formed organisational structures in 18 out of the 24 divisions across the state as part of preparations for upcoming political developments.

According to him, the structure includes leadership roles at all levels, including women’s and youth wings, largely organised by former Bersatu divisional leaders.

“Out of the 24 divisions in Perak, we now have structures in 18 divisions, and they are ready once the ‘new home’ that will be announced later is fully prepared,” he said.

Zainol Fadzi added that the latest developments indicate shifting support at the grassroots level, suggesting that political loyalty among members is no longer solely tied to leadership positions but also influenced by broader changes within the political landscape.
