9,500 Police Officers Deployed To Sabah Ahead Of State Election

Date:

A total of 9,500 officers and personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be deployed to ensure smooth operations and maintain security throughout the Sabah State Election (PRN) period.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the deployment will cover 73 state constituencies (DUN) being contested, with more than 3,500 polling channels across Sabah.

“We have taken into account the state’s vast and challenging geography, which requires detailed logistical planning, including the use of helicopters, to ensure that police personnel are properly stationed,” he said during a press conference after attending the Graduation Parade of Probationary Inspectors Batch 13 Series 1/2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) on Friday.

Mohd Khalid added that Bukit Aman will provide additional support as needed, and so far, Sabah Police have requested between 1,000 and 1,500 extra officers and personnel to be deployed to the state.

He also urged all parties — including political leaders and supporters — to maintain discipline, respect, and proper conduct during the campaigning period to ensure the election runs peacefully.

“Our nation is multiracial and currently in harmony. I call on everyone to abide by the law so that this state election can proceed smoothly, peacefully, and successfully,” he said.
