PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has urged Muslims in Malaysia not to allow themselves to be repeatedly misled by what he described as political and economic manipulation, including claims surrounding fuel price increases.
In a statement titled “Minda Presiden PAS”, Abdul Hadi argued that there is no strong justification for raising petrol prices in Peninsular Malaysia, pointing to the country’s own petroleum resources and its position outside international sanctions affecting Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
He further highlighted that fuel pricing differences in Sabah and Sarawak suggest that the rationale for higher prices in the Peninsula could be questioned. According to him, Malaysia is not significantly impacted by external geopolitical restrictions and should not use global developments as justification for domestic price adjustments.
Abdul Hadi also claimed that the real issue lies in what he described as governance leakages and mismanagement. He criticised previous assurances on resolving fuel-related concerns, saying such promises had not been fulfilled as expected.
The PAS leader also referenced remarks attributed to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, warning Malays not to forget political promises that are not delivered. He said leaders who fail to reduce fuel prices are using international factors as an excuse and accused them of misleading the public.
In addition, Abdul Hadi touched on international issues, defending Iran’s retaliatory actions in regional conflicts and alleging the existence of narratives designed to create divisions between Sunni and Shia Muslims. He also called for greater economic independence from global financial institutions.
He further urged Muslims to focus not only on religious rituals but also on strengthening economic understanding and independence. Abdul Hadi concluded his remarks by stressing the importance of unity and warning against historical divisions that he said had weakened the Malay-Muslim community in the past.
