The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security will not intervene in the probe into the massive online fraud at Bank Pertanian Malaysia Bhd (Agrobank), Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu confirmed. He said the investigation falls entirely under the purview of the Royal Malaysia Police and Bank Negara Malaysia.
“We leave it 100 per cent to them to investigate. I cannot provide further comments,” he told reporters after officiating an awards ceremony.
The announcement comes after media reports revealed Agrobank suffered losses of RM203.8 million in an online fraud case reported last November. In a parliamentary reply, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said 47 individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
Three suspects have been charged under the Penal Code for using mule accounts, while the remaining 44 are still under investigation. Saifuddin stressed that no customer accounts of Agrobank were affected.
Police are finalising the investigation papers with support from CyberSecurity Malaysia and Bank Negara Malaysia.
