UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has questioned Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Adly Zahari’s decision to sue the state government over amendments to the Melaka State Constitution concerning appointed assemblymen.
Akmal claimed that Adly had previously proposed to the Melaka Chief Minister the idea of creating appointed state assemblymen.
“Why, YB? You were the one who proposed creating appointed assemblymen, and you even posted about it on social media. It was reported in the news and everything. But when DAP raises even a slight objection, you suddenly change your position,” he said in a Facebook post.
He was commenting on Melaka PH’s decision to file a lawsuit against the state government over the constitutional amendments related to appointed assemblymen.
Following the legal action, Akmal challenged PH and DAP to take similar action against the Sabah and Pahang state governments, which also have appointed assemblymen.
“In Sabah, there are appointed assemblymen from PH. In Pahang, there are also appointed assemblymen from PH.
“So, why is it acceptable in Sabah and Pahang but not in Melaka? Is it because the state election is approaching and their position has changed?” he asked.
Akmal urged PH to state its position clearly on the issue so that the public could assess the coalition’s actual stance.
“That’s fine. I want to wait for an answer too. Please respond clearly so the people can see how hypocritical PH is in Melaka and across Malaysia,” he said.
