Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has announced that he will resign from his role as Melaka State Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security, effective next week.
Speaking at the Umno Youth annual assembly, Akmal stressed that his resignation is meant to represent the concerns of the grassroots, particularly over working with DAP.
“To show that I am carrying the voice of the grassroots who are concerned, I am hereby resigning from my position as a Melaka state executive councillor, effective next week,” he said.
However, he clarified that this does not signal a departure from Umno Youth, emphasizing his continued commitment to the party:
“But if anyone says that I am abandoning the struggle, that is absolutely not the case — I am not leaving Umno Youth,” he added.
Akmal’s move is seen as a gesture to balance party leadership duties with grassroots sentiment, while maintaining his influence within the youth wing.
