Anwar: Malaysia Withholds Support for Gaza Peace Board If No Firm Guarantees for Palestinians

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is unable to offer early support for the proposed establishment of a Board of Peace for Gaza without clear and firm guarantees on the fate of the Palestinian people, particularly those in Gaza.

He said key issues such as international recognition, a complete halt to Israeli military attacks, and the restoration of humanitarian aid have yet to be addressed.

“We are monitoring developments closely, but it is difficult for us to give support unless there are genuinely strong and firm guarantees concerning the people of Gaza and Palestine,” Anwar told reporters after Friday prayers at Surau Al Amin in Bandar Baru Bangi today.

Anwar said the continued violence by the Israeli regime and the lack of humanitarian access made it impossible for Malaysia to endorse the proposal at this stage.

Earlier, the prime minister said Malaysia would take a cautious approach towards the Board of Peace for Gaza proposed by United States President Donald Trump, citing a lack of clear information about the initiative.

On January 16, Trump announced the formation of the Board of Peace as part of the second phase of a plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
