Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed Malaysia’s support for the European Union’s rejection of the United States’ attempt to acquire Greenland through economic pressure.
Speaking during Question Time in Parliament, Anwar stressed that no nation should be allowed to “conquer” a sovereign state.
“On Greenland, we agree with the EU and Denmark’s position,” he said. “We support the right of any country to negotiate, but to conquer any country—this is something we, as a sovereign nation, will never agree to.”
The comments come amid tensions between Europe and the Trump administration, which had reportedly sought to purchase Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, sparking international criticism.
Anwar’s remarks highlight Malaysia’s stance on respecting national sovereignty and international law in matters of territorial integrity.
