Former Kota assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Awaludin Said, 65, has been elected as the Speaker of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) at a special sitting today.
His appointment followed a motion by Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim, which was seconded by Linggi assemblyman Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli.
Awaludin was the only candidate nominated for the position during the First Special Sitting of the First Session of the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly.
The Rembau UMNO division deputy chief previously served as Negeri Sembilan DUN Speaker from June 2013 to April 2018.
He was also the Kota assemblyman for four consecutive terms from 2004 until 2023, giving him extensive experience in the state legislature.
Meanwhile, Paroi assemblyman and Negeri Sembilan PAS deputy commissioner Kamarol Ridzuan Mohd Zain, 59, was elected as the Deputy Speaker.
His appointment was also proposed by Ismail and seconded by Mohd Faizal.
No other nominations were received for either position before Awaludin formally announced the appointments.
Earlier, all assemblymen, except Rantau assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, completed their oath-taking ceremony and signed their oaths of office before the Speaker.
The latest appointments mark Awaludin’s return to the Negeri Sembilan state assembly leadership, while Kamarol Ridzuan takes up the deputy role as the new state legislative term gets underway.
