Azam Baki, Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, has handed over investigations into allegations of a “corporate mafia” linked to him to the Royal Malaysia Police.
He said he would refrain from commenting on the matter as investigations are still ongoing, noting that police have already confirmed there is no involvement of MACC officers or its senior leadership in the case.
“I do not wish to comment on the allegations linking me to a corporate mafia as the matter has been fully handed over to the police. We do not want to interfere with the ongoing investigation,” he told reporters after delivering a keynote address at an engagement session organised by the Malaysian Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission task force.
Azam added that the police had publicly clarified that the case does not involve the MACC, and he would not elaborate further.
Earlier reports stated that police investigations into alleged corporate mafia activities involving businessman Victor Chin Boon Loong found no links to MACC personnel.
The probe, conducted by the Anti-Money Laundering Crime Investigation Unit (AMLA) at Bukit Aman since October, has recorded statements from 41 individuals. However, no MACC officers or senior leaders were called in to assist with the investigation.
This was confirmed by AMLA chief Datuk Fazlisyam Abdul Majid, who declined to comment further as investigations remain ongoing.
