Outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki says he plans to stay physically active after leaving office next month, while dismissing speculation about entering politics.
His contract is set to end on May 12, and Azam said he has yet to finalise his post-retirement plans, but expects to continue regular exercise such as jogging and cycling, The Star reported.
“I am still in good health and will continue to stay active through activities like jogging and cycling,” he told reporters after attending an event in Negeri Sembilan yesterday.
Azam also rejected suggestions that he may pursue a political role, stressing that his career has always been centred on public service.
“I am a public servant. My duty has always been to serve the rakyat,” he said.
At the same time, he urged MACC officers to remain united and to fully support the incoming leadership as the agency prepares for a transition in top management.
He also expressed gratitude to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim for the confidence shown in him throughout his tenure, which included several contract extensions since his appointment in March 2020.
Azam added that he hopes MACC staff will put aside internal differences and continue strengthening the institution, expressing confidence that its integrity and performance will be maintained under new leadership.
