Chaos Erupts As Azam Baki’s Speech Disrupted By Protesters At WTC

Date:

A forum featuring Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Azam Baki was briefly disrupted by a commotion believed to be caused by three men at the World Trade Centre (WTC) on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident unfolded at approximately 2.45pm when two men, who were initially seated among the audience, suddenly approached the stage while holding up banners. The unexpected move quickly shifted the atmosphere inside the hall, drawing attention from attendees and organisers alike.

Tensions escalated when one of the individuals began shouting and attempted to rush towards the stage where Azam was delivering his speech. However, swift action by auxiliary police personnel and MACC officers saw the man restrained before he could get any closer, and he was subsequently escorted out of the venue.

Another man, believed to be linked to the individuals involved, was also seen questioning the actions of the authorities. The banners displayed by the group reportedly contained messages expressing dissatisfaction with Azam, while two of them were spotted wearing T-shirts labelled “Mandiri”.

Despite the disruption, Azam remained composed and continued with his address without interruption. In a light-hearted moment, he even managed to ease the tension in the room with a spontaneous remark, joking, “Don’t switch your TV channel,” before resuming his speech.

The forum, which began at 2pm, was organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in collaboration with Asia e University and the World Trade Centre. It aimed to share insights on institutional transformation, as well as emphasise education and prevention as key strategies in combating corruption.

In addition, the programme sought to explore the role of education in shaping a generation rooted in integrity while encouraging greater social responsibility in addressing corruption and abuse of power. The event was attended by Asia e University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Noor Raihan Ab Hamid, Malaysian Employers Federation Chief Executive Datuk Seri Rosmamn Mohamed, and Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman.
