Melaka DAP leaders are reportedly preparing to resign from the state government and relinquish all positions held under the Barisan Nasional (BN)-led administration in protest against a proposed constitutional amendment introducing appointed state assembly members.

According to a report by MalaysiaKini, the announcement is expected to be made at the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN) later today after the state government proceeds with debating and approving the constitutional amendment.
The report said DAP intends to withdraw from all executive positions currently held within the state administration, including a state executive councillor (Exco), two deputy Excos, the Deputy Speaker, as well as all village heads and local councillors appointed under the current government.
Those reportedly set to resign from their executive posts include State Exco Allex Seah, Deputy Excos Low Chee Leong and Leng Chau Yen, and Deputy Speaker Kerk Chee Yee.
The report also cited sources claiming that Melaka DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong had briefed the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) on the decision during a meeting on Monday night, with the move receiving the committee’s support.
Earlier, on 11 July, Allex Seah publicly declared that Melaka DAP opposed the introduction of appointed state assembly members. In a Facebook post, he pledged to step down as a state executive councillor if the proposed constitutional amendment was passed during Tuesday’s state assembly sitting.
The proposed amendment has become a major point of contention within the Melaka political landscape, with DAP arguing that the introduction of appointed assembly members could undermine the democratic process. At the time of reporting, the state government had yet to respond to the latest developments.
