PAS has called for Parliament to be dissolved to allow Malaysians to give a fresh mandate to a new administration, claiming that infighting within the Madani Government has reached a serious level.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man alleged that parties in the ruling coalition, particularly Pakatan Harapan (PH), had been openly attacking Barisan Nasional (BN) despite working together in the current government.
“This situation is now out in the open and is no longer a secret. Normally, such matters within a party would not be brought outside, but because of the criticism, the situation has become very serious and is no longer under control, with the parties attacking one another,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference during PAS’ 75th anniversary celebrations in conjunction with the party’s 72nd annual muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (PUTIK) in Pengkalan Chepa on Friday.
Tuan Ibrahim said the situation should not be allowed to continue as political stability needed to be restored through a fresh mandate from voters.
“My view is simple. For the sake of stability, dissolve Parliament and give the people the mandate to make a new choice,” he said.
He argued that voters had not directly chosen a single party to govern after the previous general election, but that the current Federal Government was formed through a coalition brought about by circumstances that required different parties to work together.
Tuan Ibrahim also criticised attacks against Umno by government component parties, including PKR and DAP, saying such actions were inappropriate within the context of political cooperation.
He said Umno had more parliamentary seats than those parties and should not be treated in such a manner.
“Umno is much bigger than these parties, and they should not act that way because Umno has more seats and they are benefiting from Umno’s existing strength,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim added that political allies should maintain mutual respect, claiming that attacks by PKR, DAP and other government component parties had made Umno and its members uncomfortable.
“In political cooperation, we normally respect one another. The actions of component parties, including PKR and DAP, have made Umno and its members feel uncomfortable,” he said.
